Unusually heavy accumulation of snow on Adak.  The winds usually kept the snow swept away:

Adak averaged 6-12 days of sunshine per YEAR, with the remainder being heavy overcast and very low ceiling.  Many of my photos were taken on these rare days of sunshine during my two and a half years on the island:
